Those NFL paid-for commercials about getting children involved in football have been a waste. No helmet will ever protect your brain from sloshing around inside your skull.

Expect a continuing stream of new rules and new interpretations of existing ones as the NFL tries to curry favor with small, but extremely loud, anti-pretty-much-everything groups. I'm seriously doubting the game can survive for more than 10 more years in a form that would still attract fans.

"I'm seriously doubting the game can survive for more than 10 more years in a form that would still attract fans."-----sadly, I believe you are right. Look at the way jousting came and went....

FWIW, a guy by the name of Ace Parker is a NFL Hall of Famer who played back in the 30's and 40's. He played so long ago that he was QB of the Brooklyn Dodgers (not a typo). Anyway, they guy is 100 years old, and doing fine. Why don't we ever see stories written about the hundreds of guys who played football at a high level and are doing fine? Instead we read about the dozen or so that have brain ailments and kill themselves and/or their family. I think its important to view this through the same lense as air travel....no one ever reads a news story about the thousands who's flight took off and landed without incident every day.

Does anyone doubt that it is harmful to your health to intentionally collide with another large, strong, fast human over and over for a period of years? If not, wouldn't the $30 million be better spent on conditions that are not easily preventable--e.g., cancer research? These players assume the risks for hefty salaries, so maybe we should focus on other people who are not aware of the risks or properly compensated for them.
