I am surprised that Mayo is interested in Select Medical and their inpatient and out patient physical therapy clinics. In the Orthopedic Surgery Department at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, there are a number of Orthopedic Surgeons that do not recommend physical therapy for their patients after a hip and knee replacements. Even complex cases are told to do very little until the post operative appointment. After this appointment, the patient is told to go start doing again their regular activities. This works well for those that do not have complications or complex issues. Let's hope Select Medical has something to teach Mayo Clinic.
