Cleaning additive can't restore a failed catalytic converter

Here we go with the "Mousse de Mer" again. Just how will the 'foam clean the catalytic converter? The solvents will get burned off in the combustion chamber, leaving (if anything) the oil component which won't help the converter. Why waste money on trying to 'clean' the converter when you will just end up replacing it anyway? It's easy to see who's being taken to the cleaners here.

If Cataclean costs twice as much as SeaFoam, is it reasonable to presume it's twice as good? Do you use a whole can, or only half?

OK, I checked out the Material Safety Data Sheet for 'Cataclean.' Ingredients are Xylene, Isopropanol, Acetone, and 'Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated light.' Not much different than the 'foam (pale oil, naphtha, isopropanol), yet double the price. If you're determined to dump stuff in your gas tank, may as well go with the local product at half the cost. Better yet to save your money and spend it on the catalytic converter replacement.
