Totally insane. If none of the family members want him dead, life in prison should be an automatic call.
I am way more worried about the damage thermite and napalm can do when comapred to the petty damage that can be attained by small caliber hand guns. How about the anti-gun lobby focus on restricting access to thermite and napalm?
"How about the anti-gun lobby focus on restricting access to thermite and napalm?" - Items not specificaly reserved to the citizenry through the bill of rights. I guess some people just don't have any sense fo perspecting or they'd have gone after heart disease or cancer instead.
I am pretty sure that a hobbyist radio controlled rocket engine, thermite, napalm, fuel oil and some lawn fertilizer could do a lot more damage than a 9MM semi-auto hand gun.
@nowander: That's probably true.Actually, I could list a large number of items that are legal that could do more damage than a semi-automatic handgun. But at this point in time, most nutcases don't rig up napalm, they rather easily come up with handguns. The number of US children killed in recent months by napalm rigged to rocket engines is probably pretty small. The pro-gun apologists will ALWAYS first put forth an argument that says "(fill in the blanks) are worse than guns." Every time. It's a diversion argument. It's a really tedious, unproductive response. We are having a problem with guns, and we are ready to finally try to solve it. Those other things--maybe they're problems too, but guns are the specific problem we wish to solve now.
smccl001 - Focusing on guns will not reduce the murder rate. Gun control has never reduced murder rates anywhere it's been tried. It's failed where it's been tried in the US, and it's failed in England and Australia. We need to figure out why nutcases in the US think it's ok to walk into a crowd and kill.
