Skeptical journalists treat judges as little more than politicians in black robes. Others views them as wise and neutral interpreters of the law.

In America, there was a time when the best judges were appointed to the most pwerful posts. That was then and not now. Judges are now grilled as to their political views in many ways. Is that the way things should be? I think the current judges from the bottom to the top now decree their own views and most of that comes from the President whom appointed them. Liberal/Conservative should not be the key stone in whom sits in any court. They should be the most able men or woman that can be found. But now none of the best are sought out. The most eminent judges should, perhaps, come from a vote of the best judges in this country. That would be much better than our current way of appointing judges by their political thoughts.

Judges are appointed not because of their ability to bring fairness to the court and uphold the laws, but are political appointments and all too often are the right sex or race instead of the best qualified.

Even Governor No says he wants to appoint a judge with "empathy". That's not neutral in regards to the law. The law needs no emotion attached to it.

Judges are supposed to base their decisions on the law, and the supreme court in particular is supposed to decide on the law and past precedent, but too much lately has been too political. Look at citizens united and the ruling regarding Obamacare. Government should never have the right to tell people they have to buy something. And no, corporations are NOT people (neither are unions and both should be banned on the lobbying and political grants).
