It wasn't just solitary confinement. He was held naked, deprived sleep by being waken every hour, not allowed to exercise or even walk around in his cell, not allowed reading material, etc, etc. All this for exposing the wrongs of the gov'ts all around the world including ours. Governments can't handle the truth being told, the truth is only for the ruling elite.

Before you think he is being mistreated. Do you realize how many brave men, women, husbands, mothers, and childern may not come home alive becuase what he did. I think he getting off lite with only a life sentence.

Manning showed absolutely no discretion with the information he passed on. It was one grab and go after another, caring not for the content of the data within or whom it put in danger. "I'm sorry I got caught." just doesn't cut it.

Are we to judge him based on what the government claims? Based on what his lawyers and supporters claim? Why not let a court sort it all out?

He sent out unredacted material that directly led to the death of multiple people. Not in favor of the treatment, but it's hard to feel sorry for someone who felt "freedom of information" was more valuable than lives.

Don't blame the messenger for this message. Blame the feds and their constant coverups of their illegal misconduct ala Fast and Furious. This guy just pointed out that the Emperor is wearing no clothes, and the Emperor didn't like it. This judge is a credit to the bench, a few more like him and we might have a real democracy with real first amendment rights again someday.

@member11 - "This guy just pointed out that the Emperor is wearing no clothes, and the Emperor didn't like it" ................................................. No, his crimes led to the deaths of innocents. That is what he needs punished for.

I would say it was the actions of government that they didn't want the populace to know about that led to the deaths of innocents, as is so often the case throughout history..

He exposed military lies and deception. Is there proof that people were killed because of his action or is this another right wing lie?
