Wal-Mart will match competitor's ad right at the check out. Having to go to customer service counter for price match at Target is inconvenient.

NOT the case when I was there the other day. They wouldn't even match their OWN online price!

Walmart, last I checked, will not even match their own website. This last November, I went onto Walmart.com to check if they had an item. It was listed at $199.99. In store it was listed at $249.99. They wouldn't match the price, even talking to a manager. HOWEVER, if I purchased it via their website and selected in-store pickup, they would have sold me the exact same item they had in stock for the price on their website. How stupid is that? This is good news for the price conscious. But for those who like to nit-pick, I feel sorry for the Target customer service desk possibly matching dozens or even hundreds of items which are pennies apart.

Boomer08 - this goes into effect today. You're right, the other day you wouldn't have received a price match.

Best Buy should be next in line if they want to stay alive.

In order to match amazon.com, would one simply show the guest services the price on your smartphone? Or do you need a printed copy? Wish the author would provide clarity.

I went into Best Buy before Christmas and before I even inquired the sales associate told me they match online pricing, including Amazon items. Not sure if that is year round, but I appreciated that they do it at least this past holiday season. I'd shop there more often if it were year round because there are big savings in electronics online.

Don't forget, Walmart Stores, Inc. takes direction from Bentonville, AR. Walmart has a history of not being very receptive to customer requests, whether it is for a new product or for price matching. And as far as buying online and requesting site-to-store shipping, the customer faces a disadvantage in terms of shipping because those items are shipped to the store via Walmart's own transportation fleet, and may not get on a truck as quickly as merchandise meant for the sales floor. You save the shipping cost, but you give up speedy shipping. Walmart hypes site-to-store because they save having to pay the shipping cost. It costs them very little to throw your item on a General Merchandise truck already bound for your store.
