In the first year in his new post, the Vikings general manager showed winning and rebuilding can simultaneously be accomplished.

I agree 100% with your list of draft needs and upgrades the Vikings need. I'm watching Alabama kill Notre Dame. How about drafting every player available off the Alabama team? Speaking of draft picks, if Percy doesn't want to play ball in Minnesota, make a trade and get some players that will help the Vikings win and will think 'team first' instead of 'me first'. Would have been nice for the team to have Percy on the field. Literally on the field playing, or on the sidelines. Very weak Percy.

He's building something special? In 3 of the last 4 regular season games the opposing QB's threw for over 300 yards. The secondary is still pathetic. The offensive line is a joke, AP got his yards ALL ON HIS OWN SUPER HUMAN ABILITY. Frazier praises this team after arguably the most embarrassing performance by a NFL playoff team in league history. He was proud how they played? This organization continues to be laughable and it will never sniff another Super Bowl appearance.

OMG...John Carlson..TWENTY FIVE MILLION DOLLARS. All Spielman has had to do the past few years is bring in a decent wide receiver. After bringing in Camarrillo, Jenkins, Aromashadu, Simpson, etc. NONE HAVE MADE AN IMPACT. Ponder was a reach and drafting Toby Gerhart as a backup running back so high when we had pressing needs is just perplexing. Ponder has still not panned out yet and I would suggest Ponder will NEVER be the franchise QB Spielman wants you to believe. This article smells of rump kissing.

First, heavy lobbying for Frazier as Coach of the Year....now Spielman for President. These reporters need to stay in bed with the Vikes to maintain easy access.

Speilman needs to trade Percy and get the 2014 #1 pick of the projected worst team for 2013. Then we draft JONNY FOOTBALL! I doubt he will stay in college past his sophomore season.

Honestly, I want nothing more than to agree with Scoggins article. I want to believe that 2012 was not a fluke season, but rather the first chapter of a master plan that Rick Spielman is working on. But, in all honesty, I cannot. The said fact remains that the Vikings chances of making the playoffs next year aren't great. Christian Ponder remains a major question mark. There were times this season (and not too long ago, either) where he was the worst starting quarterback in the NFL. While I am willing to accept the argument that Ponder, as a whole, isn't as bad as his worst performances indicated, I am still very, very skeptical about how good he can be. I'm inclined to think his ceiling is fairly low. He just simply doesn't have the patience to go through his progressions without first taking off and running. Nor has he come even close to developing any kind of consistency throwing the ball accurately. Elsewhere, the Vikings can't simply rely on Adrian Peterson to have another year like he had this year. And even if Peterson can come close to matching this year's performance again (highly unlikely), the Vikings still cannot be as one dimensional as they were this year. They need a big play receiver on the outside. It doesn't look like Percy Harvin will be back, so the Vikings have the option of pursuing a trade for Larry Fitzgerald (who Arizona will be desperate to offload as they begin a complete roster rebuild) or going after free agent WR's like Dwayne Bowe and/or Greg Jennings. What's strange about contemplating the Vikings next year is that I'm almost inclined to have more faith in their defense than I am the offense. Not since the '93 Vikings have I felt this way. In the end, let's not give too much praise to Spielman. There is just as good a chance they go 6-10 next year as it is they go 10-6 again.

Find a #2 backup QB. R U nuts. We need a #1 QB and Pondetr isn't it. The Bama QB would be a huge upgrade. Spielman is just a poser. His track record in Miami was a disaster. 2013??? forget about the playoffs. It ain't happening.

Wow mention Spielman and good in the same article and the Viking staff haters come out of the woodwork. Don't know how you can say this team isn't in much better shape today than it was in January 2012. Last years draft was great and there is no getting around that. CS has not done as well in free agency, Carlson was a bust, so he must get better in that area. But overall I agree he has done well. And he and Frazier seem to work very well together which is also important. There is more work to do but complaining about a playoff loss is a lot better than complaining about missing out on the first draft choice like last year.

I think the book's still out on Ponder. I think a veteran backup QB is overrated. They are not really mentors, as many would like us to think. They believe they can still play and they care most about their next opportunity-not in helping the QB in front of them. I think Webb's fine as Ponder's backup. Musgrave needs to design better play selection regarding Webb. I do agree 2 LBs, DT, and at least 2 quality WRs are what we need this offseason. Hopefully, Harvin will be resigned. Losing Percy would be a biter pill to swallow indeed.
