Uncle Al seems to be smart enough to know that the REAL problem is within our mental health system. But he is pusillanimously throwing the anti-gun zealots a bone by backing the moronic magazine ban. Come on, Al you're better than that! You know darned-well that expedient, knee-jerk anti-gun measures will do NOTHING to bolster school safety.

I'm a pro choice (although I do not support abortions its not my business what other people do when they decide whats best for them)pro gun democrat. And I am glad that someone is at least looking at the real cause of violence instead of using it to push a predetermined agenda. All I can say is I'll be watching how all the politicians vote and I'll never again vote for one regardless of party that tries to take away our 2nd amendment rights. There are millions of us that obey the gun laws to the letter. We shouldnt have to lose our right to protect ourselves and our families or just enjoy going to the range and target shooting or hunting because of a few crazies. The police are very seldom there in time as in most cases its impossible for them to be . They get there in time to clean up the mess. And it would just get worse because the criminals will just ignore gun laws like they always have and would have very little fear knowing the general public had no way to defend themselves. Just look at Chicago,Very strict gun laws and whats the crime rate there.

"Rep. Tony Cornish, R-Vernon Center, said he plans to introduce a bill that would allow teachers to carry weapons in the 2013 legislative session." Gee, just what we need. A loaded gun hidden somewhere in every first grade classroom in the state, right there amongst 20 to 30 endlessly curious 6- and 7-year-olds. What could possibly go wrong?

@abracadebra: "Gee, just what we need. A loaded gun hidden somewhere in every first grade classroom in the state, right there amongst 20 to 30 endlessly curious 6- and 7-year-olds. What could possibly go wrong?" Oh please. Enough of the bogus straw man scare arguments. No one is talking about 'hiding guns' in classrooms. How ludicrous. What is being discussed is allowing licensed, trained teachers and administrators (who choose to do so) to carry concealed on their person. No one, kids included, would ever know who is carrying or not. That is the point. Once a school is announced to have 'armed security and staff' on site, these massacres would come to a halt. The reason is criminals are not stupid. They always choose 'gun-free zones' like schools. Time to do the one thing that will actually STOP these shootings. Eliminate the gun-free zones. Nothing else has worked.

With the escape plan for many of these shooters to commit suicide why would anyone think having an armed teacher or administrator would be a deterrent?

This is NOT a federal gov't issue. This is a state and Local gov't issue. Just another example of gov't waste! Get rid of the dept of Education at the federal level. It is a WASTE!
