Whatever happened to "punishment and then rehabilitation" methods for prisoners? It really appears that the inmates are running the asylum here and the administration is being the enabler. If you commit enough crimes or commit serious enough crimes, you eventually end up in prison. These aren't first time offenders in here. They have already had numerous chances through the liberal court systems and now there must be consequences. Inmates (oops, I heard you can't use that term now - you must use the PC term "residents" - ha!) should have their rights limited while in prision for their own good, as they didn't exhibit the responsibility to their own (and the public's) good when committing those crimes. If the inmates complain, tell them that their victims' rights were violated by them much much more to get them in here - enough said.
I had to read the headline 3 times to confirm that this was in Iowa and not Wisconsin.
Retired from 35 years in corrections. Absolutely incompetent leadership there! Taxpayers will pony up huge $$$ on this and well-deserved. There is a need to really question overall state leadership. Whoever runs state DOC and governor who appoints need to be held accountable here. Amazed that she and other staff were not more seriously injured in that atmosphere.
Well unfortunately for her if the case reaches the Iowa Supreme Court then it will probably be thrown out. Remember those backwoods redneck judges just allowed a dentist to legally fire his assistant just for looking too good to him. Can we somehow move Iowa further south so it'll fit in better?
NoMasBS, your bias towards anyplace south is disturbing. It's not Minnesota Nice, it's Minnesota arrogance/ignorance. States south of Minnesota are gaining population, jobs, companies, and they are improving their educational systems much faster than Minnesota. Unfortunately MN has had a nice run, but we are falling behind other states, but people like you live in ignorance/arrogance.
Wait. The inmates have televisions and netflix and cable, etc? In. Their. Cells? The prison system (prisons everywhere) really need to go back to dressing all prisoners in stripes, and making them break rocks. And "NO" prisoners shouldn't have any rights, that's why they are in prison right? For violating the rights of others?
Youre a prisoner, youre in jail for a heinous crime, you dont need the pleasures of movies. Criminals like this should be left in their cells to entertain themselves. Why should tax payers pay for them to visualize their fantasies and treat someone like they treated this woman? This is ridiculous, I am flabbergasted that this was allowed.
Prisoners arent supposed to have rights. In many areas they are allowed to have better lifestyles than some people on the outside. Cable, internet, netflix, video games, gym, etc etc etc. I had a friend go to jail for six months and he has not one bad story, it was all fun and games. Wii Bowling tournaments etc. This is ridiculous. Yotee is right nack to stripes, just what food is needed to survive, water, no soda juice etc, and make them do community services or something constructive for free.
