Souhan: Vikings ownership finally got it right with the coach and culture

Leslie Frazier is the dignified face of an organization with plenty of room to grow. But the right QB is a vital element in that vision, too.

The rules have changed this game into a pass first, rush second attack. We used to praise a QB like he was baby jesus when they threw for 4k yards, this year peyton almost threw for 5k, and multiple throw for 4k like its no big deal. Receivers used to get punished for going over the middle, now safeties and LBs lay off for fear of getting penalized. You can call pass int on almost every middle/long pass, and it is called often. Not criticizing, just saying: the passing offence dictates how good your offense will be.

Happened to channel surf and stop on the TV show "Shark Tank" the other day. Guy looking for business partner funding presented his case. Prospective partners liked the product the Guy produced but wouldn't agree to hand over their money because the Guy with the product was the only one running the show and had no back-up. "If you get hit by a bus tomorrow," said one seasoned and shrewd prospective partner, "I'd be out of my money." Too bad the Vikings Front Office and Coaches didn't watch that episode at the beginning of the season. Might have reminded them to develop a viable "insurance" plan at the Quarterback position.

Wilfs finally got it right appointing a GM & providing structure and accountability. Frasier leading a 3 win team into the playoffs was remarkable with a qb ranked in the bottom third. The players bought wholeheartedly into Frasier's program. Give Frasier an elite qb and another solid Spielman draft and the future looks very bright.

you need a good to great quarterback and a good to great back up...Minnesota has neither so that is going to have to be addressed culture or no culture...

Coach Frazier has brought stability and leadership to an organization that had neither. Now if he and Rick S. can put together another great draft and sign one or two quality free agents we may have something dangerous here. As for Ponder, at least he was playing his best at the end of the year. Really unfortunate for the organization that he did not get any experience in a playoff game due to the injury.

I just can't give Frazier any of the credit for this season. We saw the greatest effort of any athlete in any sport from Adrian Peterson this season when he carried the team week after week coming off that injury. If Harvin were healthy, we probably would still be playing and if Webb had gotten a few games under his belt that would have helped also. Harvin and Webb are mistakes on the shoulders of the coaching staff, but I just can't believe they didn't even try to let Peterson make history and brought in the rookie, A KICKER, instead of running Peterson four times at the end last week. Bud Grant found a way to play Jim Marshall and even Brett Favre found a way to help Michael Strahan, but we got cheated out of watching history being made.

Since recieving over a half billion dollars in corporate welfare this year for a new stadium the Wilfs MAIN concern from here on out is selling as many PSLs as they possibly can for the most money they possibly can and we all know it!!! They do not care whatsoever about putting a Super Bowl caliber contender on the field, in the front office, within the coaching ranks not to mention quality players and this cannot be disputed!!! If viking fans are content with having an EMPTY Super Bowl / World Championship trophy case with no hope of ever being able to celebrate a Super Bowl victory than continue to listen to people like Souhan who are paid to write stories like these for people who like to take a short cut to thinking. Those purple homers who are sick and tired of the "Empty purple trophy case" staus quo and season ticket price increases year in and year out despite no investment in quality players than let the Winter Park ticket manager know Zygi will be held accountable!!!

I appreciate that Frazier is a solid guy and that this team played hard and developed an identity. But, I don't know if Frazier and his staff are in the top half of NFL coaches in terms of Xs and Os. I don't think Frazier understands when to use time-outs in a clock management mode either. Consequently, I don't know if the Vikes can win the elusive Super Bowl with Frazier.

Frazier sets a good tone, not sure if I would call him a good coach...yet. The culture has changed. The D is developing well and should be more top 10 competitive next year. Now there needs to be an effort to step up the offense. Musgrave has got to go. His play calling Sat night reflected his ignoring the fact that to beat teams like GB you need to control the clock and run run run. With Webb amd AP he had the tools to do just that. He chose not to, as did the head coach. Ponder is a good back-up, not a top 10 starter. Webb needs to be a receiver or move on. We need a solid top 10 QB, a couple go to receivers (Simpson has been a bust), and more D Backs. I anxiously wait for July!
