Obama and his Democrat cronies plan to saddle the next generation with so much debt they will never be able to recover. All the while, the compliant main stream media will cover for him. A larger scandal this country has never experienced.
We need to cut spending NOW. It's time to privatize Social Security and Medicare and turn them over to the free-market.
This problem will never be resolved until the Republicans get their act together. They used to be a very disciplined party, but now there's a civil war between the establishment Republicans and the Tea Party. The establishment Republicans are conservative, but reasonable. The problem is that the Tea Party is full of extremists who think that compromise is a four letter word.
Why do these articles always refer to "lawmakers" or "Congress" digging their heeles in or drawing a line in the sand?? We ALL know the GOP HOUSE REPUBLICANS are the ones holding our country hostage. It's no secret and trying to write articles suggesting that everyone in Washington including the president is to blame, is ridiculous. Have a spine, be a journalist for crying out loud, and tell the truth for a change. You don't have to placate the extremist right wingnuts in this country in order to appear fair and balanced.
Our founding fathers created a form of government that works with elected officials compromising. Our country has always been based on the middle class and the middle ground.
"Republicans say they are willing to raise the debt ceiling but insist any increase must be paired with significant savings from Medicare, Medicaid and other government benefit programs."
Why do the Republicans keep going after programs that have dedicated taxes supporting them, and which support the middle class? Did they learn nothing from the election? The Military is the largest single line item in the budget, and has doubled in the last 10 years. No other program comes close to that kind of growth. Cut the Military back to what it was just 10 years ago, then we can start talking about other programs.
"It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world."-- Thomas Jefferson
Why do the Republicans keep going after programs that have dedicated taxes supporting them, and which support the middle class? ********* Why do you keep believing these lies?

Because Republicans keep speaking them. Or are you saying the liberal media is putting words in Republicans mouths? Voice overs on live TV interviews must be the hardest to do.

Debt as percent of GDP was 60% the year I was born, so this problem has been building for some time. While Dick Cheney said that Reagan proved that deficits don't matter, he was dead wrong. Unfortunately, even some of the most informed people I know have never looked at the Federal Budget, and don't understand just how much trouble the Country is in. Part of me hopes the Republicans do refuse to raise the debt ceiling. When it brings on another global recession, this time with the government unable to borrow to keep us out of a depression, maybe people will finally get off their party speaking points and start asking questions.
