The quarterback's arm "never got to a point where it was good enough" for him to play.

We all gave Rick Spielman kudos for fine draft (and rightfully so), but he really blew it when he cut Sage Rosenthal. I'm not saying we win tonight with Sage, but I guarantee its a much tighter game. Lets hope Rick learns from his mistake and brings in a veteran to COMPETE with Ponder and may the best QB win.

No doubt Spielman wasn't anticipating or prepared for a playoff run and stuck with two raw projects as backups in the most important position in all of sports. Love Bud Grant's quote after watching this lopsided QB match-up - a successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

It simply amazes me that you can have a back up quarterback who HAS NOT THROWN ONE PASS in the regular season......how can that be???? Webb has not had alot of experience anyway, and then this comes up........they actually expect him to do the job?????? COMONNNNNN>>>>>>>>>>>

Sunday Morning Quarterback prescription: 1. Acquire Alex Smith. 2. Move Ponder to back-up. 3. Trade Webb, or move him to WR or to spell AP. 4. Mollify Percy or trade him.

Whoever got rid of Sage is to blame for an inept backup situation. Sage was a good mentor on the side line and would have come in more prepared. I am thinking Spielman was afraid he would take over as starting QB and make his Ponder pick look bad.

I am pissed, and embarrassed! Ponder can play in his biggest game to date, and silence fan's,and he wimp's out. Then the Brass don't have anybody who can even throw a pass in wings to play. Ponder is a average QB at best, and the Vikings will never go any farther then yesterday if they don't go and find someone else to lead, and want to play in big games! I think coaches and GM need to realize fans don't want to keep hearing year after year we are rebuilding! It's been 10 years, except when we got Old Favre(who had only one year left in him).Trade, buy a good quarterback who can pass the ball and will WANt To PLAY in play-offs

Our GM really needs to make a decision on Webb, develop him or find a real alternative to a back up QB (you would think having a veteran on the squad would help help Ponder's growth curve). If Webb has a skill set to help the team, then get him on the field other ways. Creativity is not a strong point of the current coaching staff.

With all the coaching changes happening this offseason there will be some options out there for veteran backup QB options. Some of these options may also push Ponder for the starting job but I really don't think that is what the Vikes want to do. The Vikes still believe Ponder is the QB of the future I just wish he could have played and proved they were right. Webb is a great athelete but they need to find a new position for him or cut him loose.

bearcatbb, bulls eye! Always keep in the back of your mind how Miami did with Spielman at GM. I do not understand why we haven't found another way to use Webb. If he can catch a ball, make him a wide out. If he can't, try him at DB, unless he can't tackle. If he can't catch, and can't tackle, why are we paying him? The strongest arm in the world is useless without accuracy.

Very few teams in the NFL can win with a backup in the game. Even if Ponder plays, we probably lose. In the big scheme of things, we added a pro bowl left tackle, a pro bowl kicker, a stud safety and a very promising corner through the draft this year. We weren't going anywhere in the playoffs this year anyway, but could be one more good draft (a great WR?) and another year of QB experience away from being an actual playoff factor. The head coach and the top brass have nothing to be ashamed of. Thanks from this fan!
