Majority of sane experts agree that less spending combined with higher revenues (taxes) is only way of our fiscal mess. Flat earth people don't get it. Reactionary behavior like this, simple answers to complex problems rarely are, will be like watching repubs go the way of lemmings and the dinosauer. 2014 could be the end of that party.

And this is why republicans will end up loosing their majorities. Government is about compromises and the current crop only want to take their ball and go home...they don't play well except with other spoiled brats like themselves. Middle of the road republicans and establishment republicans would be better off dumping right wing extremist because then they'd pull conservative dems (ex republicans) back into their camp.

The Republicans that voted for the fiscal cliff tax increases, are not really focused on or worried about being re-elected - these are not selfish people. The fiscal cliff bill will raise taxes on 77% of working Americans. If you work, you will see this when you look at your first pay stub in 2013. The democrats made sure to give tax breaks to the millionaires in Hollywood as part of this bill, but didn't think you deserved a break in your payroll tax. No, the Republicans are not 'worried' about getting re-elected, they are more worried about saving the country from tax and spend socialism. They are also more worried about what they will tell their children, when we pass on the 20 trillion dollar Obama/Pelosi/Reid deficit to the next generation. THAT is what they are worried about.

'Government is about compromises and the current crop only want to take their ball and go home...they don't play well except with other spoiled brats like themselves....' And its ignorant comments like this that really speak about how much people know about the issues. $1 in spending cuts for every $43 in tax increases and you have the gall to even talk about compromise. Unreal...and ignorant. Do some reading on the British and Irish economies, see how they are doing. They raised taxes on the rich many times and increased their social program spending. See how that's working for them.

The payroll tax will go back to normal levels it's not a tax increase just a expiration of a temporary tax reduction, tell the truth. 80% of Americans believe the Wealthy should pay their fair share. The republicans are worried about saving the country? That's really funny! The rupublicans are worried about being the perfect lapdog for their corporate and wealthy campaign contributors. The democrats will control the house and senate after 2014. The republican party is a mess and the internal fighting will be their downfall in 2014.

Did you notice that they could have raised taxes then, but did not even TRY because they were afraid that they would get blamed. Here is the real kicker, you say that it was not a tax increase, but just expiration of the tax cuts that Obama gave, but when the Bush tax cuts expire, you say that the Republicans are trying to Raise your taxes. Which are they. Either they are BOTH expiring tax cuts or they BOTH are tax increases. Most people are seeing them as tax increases and they see that it is the DEMOCRATS that did it. They also see the over FIFTY pork barrel items that the democrats gave to their donors. Both sides are a joke. If you want deficit reduction, you don't vote for 60 Billion dollars in tax cuts (our of 1.5 Trillliion in deficit) and then increase spending by another 125 BILLION! The only way to save this country was to allow the cliff to occur and NEITHER side was willing to do what it takes to save the country, because BOTH sides now are more interested in votes than they are in the future of the USA!

No, you don't give away your only bargaining chip and then say ... "We'll demand cuts some other day" ... These republicans who voted for this travesty should all be challenged in the next primary. If they are going to simply be democrats, then we need to vote in some people who will be republicans. They are allowing obama to increase spending at a time when we need to CUT spending. Every one of these RINO's need to be voted out and replaced with republicans that adhere to conservative values.

Funny how the Repubs are upset over the expiration of the payroll tax holiday. Remember, it was the Republicans who opposed this tax holiday and stated, when it was up for renewal, that it has to be paid for through budget cuts. Funny how the payroll tax holiday had to be paid for using budget cuts; yet, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Bush Tax Cuts DID NOT need to be paid for through budget cuts.

Wow! So those who want a compromise and believe in compromise are now ignorant people. Wow that just means a majority of Americans are ignorant people since most polls show Americans overwhelmingly wanted a compromise and new tax revenue to help solve our budget mess.
