Carlson was a sweater wearing liberal. Swapping out one liberal on the court to another is no big deal.

A "sweater wearing liberal"? Now that's a new one. The ignorance of the RW never ceases to amaze. Truth be told, Justice Anderson is a Republican, though given how far to the right the GOP has lurched over the past 20 years most of the true believers would not recognize him as such. I took his class at the U of M Law School where he served as an adjunct professor and for the final, major project wrote a paper excoriating the Texas Supreme Court's extremely right wing, pro-corporation jurisprudence that was and no doubt remains completely unhinged from legal precedent. Justice Anderson apparently did not like it as I got a poor grade in the class. Oh well, not as if I really gave a damn. In the later period of his time on the Court, he and Justice Page have been the only two who have given more than lip service to the rights of criminal defendants. Though in my personal experience he can be somewhat of a blowhard, he is a nice person, a good justice, and an empathetic and caring individual. Hopefully his replacement will be up to the task of filling his robe in all of these respects. That Governor Dayton rather than some RWer will be appointing the replacement makes this more likely.

jimjimjimjimJ: "Carlson was a sweater wearing liberal. Swapping out one liberal on the court to another is no big deal." If Carlson was a liberal, so was Reagan, Goldwater and William F. Buckley Jr. The right only has Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and Paul Ryan as their leaders since they have purged every conservative who has had a reasonable thought in his or her mind.

Please list a single area where Arne was a true conservative? Not just more conservative that left wing Minnesota, actually conservative - ie smaller government, lower taxes, less welfare.

clnorth, your point is taken. Funny too, if inaccurate in using the term blowhard when I said noting tooting my own horn. All I am saying is that Justice Anderson in my experience loves to tell stories, often repeating them, and they usually reflected well upon him. That fits me definition of a blowhard. Though he is not a hardcore one or anything. I am sure plenty of people have great things to say about him, and justifiably so, without him having to chime in too.

Justice Paul Anderson is well recognized as possessing the highest qualities of a thoughtful, non-partisan and ethical jurist. - He has tremendous respect for the letter as well and spirit of the written governance of the nation and state. His presence will be missed, sorely from the present Court of Pawlenty Partisans.

It's been 2+ days and no one has yet come up with a single example that would show Arne Carlson to be anything buy a liberal democrat.
