Good article, Dennis. Economic impact of outdoor sports is huge in Minnesota. Now viusualize the loss of that $$$$ if there is not a coordinated effort to stop the influx of AIS into Minnesota waters. Lakes clogged with milfoil and cleansed barren by zebra mussels will not produce good fishing, ANY time of year. Talk to your local lawmakers about this and urge them to support the battle against AIS with tax dollars now. Pay me now.....or REALLY pay me later!

I would totally agree with the article, and add that a good snowfall helps the snowmobiling and skiing businesses just the same. In the bigger picture I might challenge that it helps the states "economy". This is where I believe people need to look at the bigger picture. I may have $100 in my pocket and somebody is going to get it. If I can't fish or snowmobile, I may choice instead to go out for dinner or bowling, etc. No NHL this season, so as a result we have been down hill skiing and playing hockey more. Just like the game of monopoly, there is only so much money to go around, when one wins another loses. With a "better" economy "all ships rise", it would help if our politicians understood this.

And lots of cold cash. Marketing the great oudoors is really sick!

jackpinesav: Actually lakes clogged with Millfoil (Lake Minnetonka) makes for excellent ice fishing.

People spend their entertainment dollars wether there is good ice or bad ice. The only difference is in what sector they spend their money. With good weather they will spend in on the great oudoors...with bad weather they will spend it on the great indoors. Break even in either scenario...just depends which market you are vending in.
