Yes it worked so well in Libya and Egypt. This is their civil war, so lets stay out. We would not have liked it if other countries had involved themselves in our Civil War 150 years ago.

"It's time for responsible, empowered nations to stop fiddling. Somehow, the slaughter must stop." Quite a conclusion to this, but please define "responsible empowered nations" for us all. China? Russia? the USA? No, you are barking up the wrong tree here. The only people that should be stopping this war, intervening however they would like through negotiations or militarily, are the nations of Islam around the world. Not one US soldier should die here as a result of our own decisions, nor as part of any U.N force.

China and Russia made sure that the Syrian regime was propped up. Let them handle it. When the authors of this editorial say that "somehow" something must get done, the implication is that it is up to the US to lead the charge. No, thanks! Neither Russia nor China have shown that they are ready to work through the UN - and help pay the price in blood and money.

"To date, diplomatic attempts at some kind of negotiated settlement have failed." Of course they have. And it is inevitable that they will continue to do so. The reason is one that scarcely if ever gets mentioned in our media, but this "civil war", despite those who so strongly would like us to believe so, is not a group of democratically-minded rebels fighting nobly against the murderous oppressive Assad, but instead various factions of "rebels" who kill one another as gleefully as they kill those fighting for Assad.

According to liberals what happens beyond our borders is not our concern. They preach world peace and a world without borders but look the other way at these atrocities. Remember when liberals held hands across the nation and sang "We are the World"? My how times have changed.

jimjimjimjim: maybe you're right, but I don't quite understand your position? Are you arguing for the right? and if so, where were you and where are you now when all the civil wars and killing in African nations in the last 20 years? You don't seem to concerned there. And yes, I will take that shot, because it happened and you cannot deny history. Cheney and Bush never met a war they didn't like and how many American soldiers have died? for what? Iraq has puppet government and is still not safe, and tell me Afghanistan did a complete turn around and everybody is going to be walking around in 2014 with a smile on their face? No, your position is pretty much one of a hypocrite. I could be wrong; but I doubt it.
