My last day in Congress

Two months shy of 30 years in the House, I leave a chamber in which we challenge one another's legitimacy, not one another's ideas.

Its all the fault of one man, and one man alone: President Obama. His harsh, rigid, and stridently left-wing way of governing has torn this country apart. We are at each other throats with hatred! Until we get a president that governs, and acts like an adult, we will continue to hate each other in the way now ex-congressman Ackerman so eloquently laments.

Gary, thanks for your service. I agree that the class war and resulting divided country and dysfunctional political leadership on both sides has been a terrible thing. Let's hope that a new moderate, common sense party emerges to bring this country back to where it belongs.

The problem is that we have people who think it's in the acceptable to serve for 30 years in Congress. Is the United States still a Jeffersonian democracy? Hardly.

How is it possible to breathe new life and energy into Congress when an incumbent has zero accountability? Bring in term limits to get past gridlock.

pistols12 - yep, Obama is the one behind all this hatred. It is because of him the GOP has become filled with hate.

Wish you would have submitted a bill mandating term limits and outlawing lobbying after public office but after 30-years you have been totally bought, sold and corrupted.

To me the best solution is to recognize the two party system as being on the same level as a monopoly, or perhaps, an oligarchy. As a nation we would be much better off with 25 smaller parties, who would then be forced to compromise with each other to build coalitions. but the two parties, whose seemingly whole purpose in life is to promote the financial health of their party, will never let that happen.

Ahh yes...the race card is played yet again. You do realize that DEMOCRATS are the most racist people in America for throwing this foolish notion out time and time again. I am a Conservative who WOULD vote in Colin Powell or Condoleezza Rice in a heartbeat. Kind of throws a monkey wrench into your logic. I would wait for your response arielbender but you know I'm right...yet again.

The irrational hatred for Obama from a vast majority of your side is rooted in racism and is evident time after time. Everyone knows it....deny all you want.
