I wish the state would implement a .15% tax to help fund these fine musicians. The thought of them working for eight grueling months of the year in harsh working conditions and only living on $138,000 per year, well I just can't sleep at night.

Given the current lack of trust by all parties if I were a mediator I'd advance the following. Pay a prorated amount the same as the lapsed contract for the remainder of the year. Understanding that to do so organizations will have to borrow or use the corpus of endowed funds. In exchange union reps agree to sit down with Board and admin to develop a viable plan for First rank organizations that can be sustained. That means better community investment and larger audiences. Failing that they should consider a more humble existence.

How about include the audiences period - for a start? Mgmt. has ignored a key stakeholder group, and that didn't work out so well.

I don't think I'd counter to someone trying to cut my salary by 30% either. Especially when management just spent 50 million on renovating their hall and trying to raise another 60 million for other activities. Sure a 6 figure salary is higher than many, but this isn't far from the industry averages. I'd rather see professional musicians making a comfortable wage than professional athletes making millions.

Typical of management/administration, they think they can keep their salary without providing a product..........The orchestra, like everything else these days is all about administration.

Mr. Henson...what is with your apparently misleading statements to the state legislature, regarding the financial footing of the Minnesota Orchestra? (I won't bother asking you to explain the "sound of barriers moving forward"...I only hope that's not a concert program you're describing.)

Is it a case of not enough customers or bad decision making by management????

@freedubay...your sarcasm directed at musician salaries only highlights how little you understand the lockout, how little you value what musicians do, and what little price you place on dignity. But, you know, at least you were the first to comment.
