How about adding lanes to I-494 to serve the masses before spiffing up a house to serve one.

While I don't have a problem with them doing work on the house in order to maintain it, $2.6 million seems like a lot for the list of things they plan on doing. Maybe the Strib could do some reporting and get a break down of the costs.

Given that the state used this facility for 175 events last year, I am inclined to agree that we have a reason to keep and therefore maintain this building. If we had another facility that was similarly suitable for these events, it might make sense to evaluate which one to keep and potentially sell the other. Unfortunately big old buildings cost money to maintain, and you have to do it sooner or later, and it appears everyone agrees it is already "later" in this building's case.

A $2.6 million renovation on a house with a market value of $2.7? Are you kidding me? I guess it is easy to spend other people's money. One would think insurance would cover some of this.

At first glance it looks like a lot of money. But if it has been neglected, any old house can end up costing at much to fix as it is worth. It would be interesting to see the amounts spent in the past on upkeep, was it "penny wise and pound foolish"?

"A 2011 facility assessment identified $6.3 million in possible needs..." The house is only worth $2.7 million. Sounds like Ted Mondale got involved in this matter?
