Monster and 5 Hour Energy shot are different products. Apples to Oranges. 5 Hour Energy advertises no sugar, four calories and as much caffeine as in a cup of coffee...which seems to be ok considering we are selling an outragous amount of coffee to teens and young adults as well. Monster is a soda full of caffeine and sugar.

The history of the soft drink industry is the history of a soft-drug industry...whether it's cocaine cola, (coca-cola), lithium drinks (7-up, lord knows what (Dr. Pepper), etc., the industry always try to find some new less-addicting substance to replace the banned ones. The energy drinks are the same stuff. Look 'em up.

An early appearance for the 2013 nanny state herd who want bigger government, increased dependence on government and no individual responsibility or accountability. No decisions will be made by individuals if these nanny staters have their way.

I guess if you say the magic words "nanny state" the bad history and practices of the industry disappear or become irrelevant. Say it three times and you might get a job at the Center for the American Experiment.

Soft drinks just took a hit today with the fructose study. What I find hilarious is the soft drink companies say there is no proof or link to high fructose being an issue. Funny when they engineer foods and beverages to make us want to then eat more food and drink more beverages it is okay. However, when they engineered cigarettes that way it was a law suit. I seem to agree it was wrong of tobacco companies to research that ability, and applauded them making laws to reign that in. You can't protect people from themselves, but you can make them safer from predators. The soft drink and food biz is not America's but the world's biggest predators. I predict that we will find high fructose has been known by these companies to promote increased consumption over sweetners and have exploited this finding. Monster drinks are the pinnacle of predatory food engineering, using multiple forms of addictive additives. Five hour energy may not have much in calories but it's spooky, and probably deserves more scrutiny long term.

"I guess if you say the magic words "government dependence" the bad history and practices of the individual freedom of choice disappear or become irrelevant. Say it three times and you might never have to think for yourself again because liberal socialists will make all your choices." What an ugly way to live...

"Nanny state?? Well, if conservative had it their way we would be selling poison to 4 yr olds.">>>>>>>> If you were a parent, just what would your 4 year old be purchasing? Would he/she be employed to earn the money, would you isue an allowance for chores completed or would the govt entitlements start by that age?
