That is sad. I wondered if she had ANY family that could have helped her to clean it out even a little. Have seen the show on TV but did not realize how many people are guilty of doing the "hoarding".

My MIL was a hoarder. We tried umpteen times to help her clean her home. She would agree, but would sit and sob while we were cleaning. It was exhausting to do the job and never stayed clean for long. The hoarding began immediately after the job was done. After *years* of helping her we simply gave up. Not because we didn't love her. It was just too draining and she seemed happier with the mess than when it was cleaned. Sometimes you can only help so much until you finally call it quits. When she died my FIL cleaned the whole thing within days of her death and has (happily) lived his life in a spotless house.
