Michigan State outhustled and outmuscled Minnesota in the past, but the Gophers matched that effort and finished with a flourish in the Big Ten opener.

Why does this column seem to mostly cover the first half only? I expected more descriptive coverage of the WHOLE game.

The game ended only a little while ago. How fast is the reporter supposed to write?

Great win! If the Gophers could take better care of the ball, this game would have been over much earlier. Costly turnovers that led to layups on the other end. Tubby's offense is still SO stagnant, completely relies solely on the athleticism of this team. And...I can't believe Tubby and his staff aren't prepared for a defense that switches on screens, especially when inbounding the ball under our own basket. Take care of Northwestern on Sunday!!

Gopher hockey wins big.... Gopher basketball wins a game they'd have lost in the past. Wisconsin football loses its coach. I'm starting to get excited! Go Gophers!

Well done. A must win for this team. Given the difficult schedule ahead, they must win every game at home and pick off a few on the road. The sad statement in the headline says it all. First win at home vs. MSU since 2006. The Gophers have been bad for a long time. Time for Tubby to coach them up or leave. No more excuses.

Great finish for the gophers. Nice to see after years of being owned by the spartans. The one thing I would like to see is Tubby change his substitution pattern. What ever happened to 1-2 subs on the floor with the starters? Still don't understand why he continues to use a hockey type line shift, that usually results in losing any momentum the starters have built up. Still, great win, Go Gophers!!

Watched the game with a big Michigan fan who knows basketball, and he said Minnesota just is better at most positions than Michigan State and will be a handful for his Wolverines. He's very impressed with the Gophs. Having said that, it's a standing joke the last few years as we watch Tubby's team just try to get the ball in bounds under their own basket (much less score). It's almost like the opponent knows the in bounds plays better than we do, and inevitably we resort to heaving into the back court. Counted 4 turnovers on the in bounds. In a game with Michigan, Ohio St. or Indiana, those four possessions can mean the difference between a win and an "almost".

Terrific start to the Big Ten season. I thought when MSU pulled ahead by 5 that they would continue with their surge. Way to keep it close and pull away in the last 3 minutes. Good luck and continued success!!! Love watching the talent on this years team.
