9 die as tour bus crashes on icy Oregon highway, goes down 100-foot embankment

PENDLETON, Ore. - The stretch of rural Oregon interstate where a tour bus crashed through a guardrail and plummeted 100 feet down a steep embankment is so notorious that state transportation officials have published a specific advisory warning of its dangers.

The information attached to the end of the article talking about how safe bus travel is probably aren't a whole of comfort to the families of these victims.

My wife and I were in this same area of highway 84 in March of 2011. The view looking west before you decend into the Pendleton valley is awsome. The area is full of pioneer Oregon Trail hsitoric sites. The snow cover and road conditions can change drastically in a very short distance.
