As students focus on careers, liberal arts colleges try to survive with sports and flexibility

If I was looking for an employee who has the background knowledge to think for himself and knows how to read, analyze ideas and write something original, then I would pick somebody with a liberal arts education. The world is a complicated place and you need a range of knowledge in order to thrive. Narrow career or technical training can sometimes get you a good job, but it doesn't often give you the flexibility and transferable skills a good liberal arts education provides. We need people with this sort of education. We should find a way to make it more affordable.
