I hope they don't settle. I am tired of kicking the can down the road for my children and grandchildren. 100 Billion savings out of 1.5 trillion is NOT deficit reduction!

Republicans have said they will use administration requests for an extension as leverage to win cuts in spending.---And this is the reason we have this so-called cliff because they wouldn't raise the debt-ceiling unless they had spending cuts. Do they really want to go there again! Maybe not a bad idea if they don't want to win in 2014. The country is no longer buying their hostage of the economy deal.

Today I am pledging to cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office. Now, this will not be easy. It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we've long neglected. But I refuse to leave our children with a debt that they cannot repay, and that means taking responsibility right now, in this administration, for getting our spending under control." ------Obama 2009

I think that the people saying that Obama and the left want to go over the cliff are right. They want to destroy our country and our freedoms. They are trying to take our rights to gun ownership away, and they also want to take our rights to worship the way we want away from us. The liberal supreme court ruled that the Green Family that owns Hobby Lobby has to give up their religious beliefs because of Obamacare. They no longer have the ability to worship God the way that they see fit. They have to accept abortion in order to comply with Obama, Klobachar and the left's wish to destroy the best health care system in the world with Obamacare.

"100 Billion savings" ... more of that conservative math that doesn't add up. And still waiting for the links to all the economists who said in 2009 that doing nothing would improve the economy.

tooty123- How much debt do you propose we run up before we get serious about reducing our spending? Maybe $20 trillion? How about $30 trillion? Why is it so hard for you and all the other liberal fools out there to understand that our country is in serious financial trouble! We have a spending problem, plain and simple. Wake up and get your head out of the sand!

and refusing to raise the debt ceiling means they are refusing to pay the current bills for the spending they had previously approved. Republican's are dead beats.

No, by refusing to raise the debt ceiling, the conservatives said they were going to pay existing debts with the revenue available rather than increasing discretionary and social spending.

People really have to be naive to think this country can sustain this level of spending. You cant give everyone everything they want. ( yes, this includes the military). Im willing to pay a bit more in taxes to help this country. If you voted for obama are you willing to pay more taxes? What are you willing to forgoe?

"The liberal supreme court ruled that the Green Family that owns Hobby Lobby has to give up their religious beliefs because of Obamacare. .... no, they ruled that they can't impose their religious beliefs on their employees.
