Queue the naysayers....I would like to point out that the Twins ballpark was a much more important amenity than the Vikings stadium, IMHO. Happy it got funded and glad to see the financing is working better than projected. And I am sure i am going to hear that the Guthrie should not have been financed either, from the following comments.

Taxpayers building stadiums for billionaires. Future taxpayers will shake their heads at our stupidity.

This is great. A revenue positive facility for Mpls and paid off early. This is a no brainer - a great investment for the city and state.

Glad that everyone is rolling in taxpayer money. Meanwhile has anyone noticed the Twins lost 99 games 2 years ago and 96 games last year. Lets puts some lipstick on this pig and maybe no one will notice.

If the ballpark would have been paid for by the team owners or by a statewide sales tax increase rather than just sticking it to one county's residents it would be paid off even faster - and far more fairly.

The state of Minnesota - actually the Metro area, which pays the freight - has always managed to end up in the black on these buildings. As for ballparks for billionaires, we started down that path with the Vikings and the Dome, then Target Center and then the X. So the Twins were due. Way overdue, after 50 years here. But one to a customer. Sorry, Zig, you should be buying your own storefront.

Public buildings like stadiums, theaters, and museums are not built for billionaires. They are built for the people who frequent them for the entertainment value. The Coliseum in Rome was built on taxpayer money too. The only difference is that now our society has politicians who love to cry and moan about lowering taxes, and they have been crying the same cry for roughly 236 years. The next time you hear someone crying about how much they pay in taxes, ask them how much they paid last year. They won't have a clue. They just want something to cry and whine about.
