One point of clarification. It has actually been two decades of plant closures, not one. This transformation has been about as painful as they get.
What an awesome story. Glad to see the business is finding a way to grow in a new economy. Loved the commercials!
Hope they make it. Sounds like they are being PROactive vs REactive. That's refreshing.
Consumers have not grasped the essence of their transformation? Uhh, what?
So they are targeting busy business owners by advertising on tv? I saw the commercials, read the article. I still think they only do checks. It is going to take a little more to convince me.
Loved the ads. I didnt't even know Deluxe was in the website business. Like the idea of working with a local company. Can't be any worse than godaddy.
@lame, do you own a small business? we'd love to convince you! what would it take?
@whim. I am a vc that invests in small businesses so they can run their business, not the other functions. I expect vendors that have the expertise to provide services. They are trying to expand into a market that already exists. They still have an 800 lb gorilla to get rid of first.
@lame - if you're a VC, then certainly you understand that the "800lb Gorilla" is funding the acquisitions Deluxe has made into serving small businesses and gives them access to 4 million customers to offer those services to... while the market exists, its highly fragmented. If you're a small business, you need to hunt down and manage 6-8 different vendors to provide those "expert services" -- most small businesses don't have the time, interest or ability to do so. Maybe VC-backed late-stage businesses do, but not the average small business.
I was disappointed with Deluxe website services. They over-promised and under-delivered. Are high-priced commercials the answer to providing good services? I don't think so.
