Just another example of people in authority trying to admit their wrong. And this one is likely to cost Mankato big bucks.

Sounds like Mankato State is trying to get rid of coach. It was chickenshxt to suspend him after he was found innocent of the charges. I hope Mankato State has to pay a boatload of money over this.

Institutional incompetence! What quality person would ever want to work there?

sleepapneaDec. 28, 12 9:30 PM

Sounds like a textbook case on how to totally screw up this situation. Hoffner probably won't coach there next year, but he will be a lot richer when this is finally settled.

He is innocent. I hope he sues The University of No where for every penny they have.

franknfactsDec. 28, 12 9:42 PM

Criminally innocent yes. But he broke a common rule of using a company phone for personal use. If I use a company cell phone for personal use I can lose my job. If they deem me using a company computer for personal use I can lose my job. Just like anyone can in today's world.

While I do not believe that Hoffner video taped his children for pornographic purposes, I also do not believe Kao Xiong intentionally put a gun in his 4yr old son's hands to shoot his 2yr old brother. Hoffner and Xiong both made less than ethical and for sure bad (and in Hoffner's case immature) decisions. I cannot and will not believe that either Hoffner or Xiong should not be held accountable for their decisions. Individuals should not be rewarded for wrongdoing. Hoffner understood the rules of using university equipment and he broke the rules....Should a person (the fact that he was the child's parent is even more revolting than his lawyer Meshbesher would have us believe should be looked upon with sympathy)not be punished for having 8 loaded guns, with no safety's laying around a house? I think not and his negligence resulted in a death, just as Amy Sensor. It's one of the major problems with our society today. Everyone is alarmed at the shootings in Conn., Co., etc. but yet society is so willing to not hold people accountable for their actions. No one wants to take responsibility anymore.

Another over zealous prosecutor, ala Duke Lacrosse team, ruining someone's life, because of their own higher ambitions. Incompetence at its best.

Minnesota State was being considered by my kids - not any longer! Pathetic Leadership - make that Pathetic Non-Leadership!

kenw1952wDec. 28, 12 9:50 PM

What was the school suppose to do....let him remain as headcoach while the investigation went through the process???? Mn is a right to hire and right to fire state and Hoffner is attempting to make himself into a martyr when he used unbelievably poor judgment and questionable parenting decisions. I think he should consider himself lucky to have a job at the school, but apparently earlier posters are in favor of the decay of moral and ethical values that a healthy society will always require.
