If something can get through security and be carried onto a plane, someone will lose it.

In as much as the seat pockets are "black holes" for lost items, so is losing an item with an airline. I appreciate their efforts, but what percentage of items are actually returned to passengers? Might be more cost effective to sell the items and use the revenue to remove the bag-check fees that have forced everyone to cart everything onto the planes in the first place.
