Phil Davis is long overdue for a permanent vacation. MCTC is a cesspool of bigotry, hate and racists from the student life perspective all the way down to it's student government. It's time for a change, and it starts with Davis and his legal personnel next door.

This is one of the most banal and empty commentaries I've read in the Star Tribune. So President Davis is a good guy, has a tough job and deserves our support. Maybe so. But a commentary that defends a college president without even mentioning the concerns of those of who have publicly expressed no confidence in him -- even to dismiss those concerns -- isn't worth much. It's a good thing this St. Paul attorney and former legislator is not a defense counsel. It appears though, that he makes a good character witness.

I attended MCTC during its first two years. Go forward to the present. About two years ago I stopped in at MCTC and went to the media center to look at yearbooks starting at their third year. Their reaction was pure paranoia. Suspicious looks at me. Comments like "why would you want to look at them. They said that they didn't have them, so check with the President's office, but don't go up there; telephone them. I went up to the President's office and found that he had left for the day. The office staff told me that the yearbooks were probably in the storage room across from their office. They were regarding me suspiciously also. Saying "why would I want to look at them". I did explain. It was because I had been in a play at their present campus, and wanted to see if there were pictures. I then wrote a note to the President offering to sort that room across the hall, in order to find the yearbooks. I never received any answer, but I did get a call from someone else at the college, involved with alumni relations, and she told me that my request to see the yearbooks was strange and unusual. In conclusion, I know that at the age of 66 I was threatening, even though I was a giant success story for their school in as much as I had gone on to graduate from Augsburg college and graduate work at the U of M, and had taught at the Minneapolis Public Schools for 40 years. I did tell them this, and said I might also be interested in speaking for their school. I tell this story because it was a huge public relations gaff for the school, I think. And this emanated from the President's office. Finally, I wonder what other insensitive, to say the least, actions emanate from that office.

Once again the Strib does not provide enough information for a reader to understand the issues. We only know two things: there was a vote of no confidence and 2 the former legislator thinks the president is a fine person. I'm sorry I wasted NY time reading the story.

To make a broad statement that MCTC is a racists school is wrong, and without facts. Are you saying this because you disagree with writer, and the article, or do you have facts to share with the rest of us readers??
