Narrowing charitable giving can lead to a bigger payoff

Bigger contributions to fewer causes means those contributions can do more good than many smaller gifts to many organizations.

Focused giving is likely to benefit a small number of well established charities at the expense of smaller charities. While your contribution may be used more efficiently, it will have less of an impact because well established charities are usually better funded. Giving to a smaller charity is likely to have a bigger impact because most are underfunded. Of course, you could focus on the smaller charity, but most people won't.
