Coffee, please, without the fiscal cliff

In some places, your Starbuck's cups now come with a message about the fiscal cliff.

This is a reasonable political analysis, but a poor business analysis. Businesses that take overt partisan stands generally alienate a portion of their customers. That's bad business. The best that Starbucks can hope to do is to spur conversation, which is what they're doing because you just wrote an op-ed piece on the issue and I am commenting on it. If they say out loud which side they're on, it will cost them some money.
