I am confused. Why do we have record rates of people on welfare, social security disability, not paying income tax, etc.?
That's because they don't count those that have been unemployed for a long time.
Hits a low for one month and we are healed? Shouldn't we wait to see if there is a trend? Govt offices were closed over Christmas so not all updates were done. There will be adjustments to this number, (there is every month anyway). Another question one couls ask, Who else is there to lay off?
This is partly because many many people have used up their unemployment benefits and can no longer receive benefits/payout. It doesn't have much to do with people finding jobs!
What oh what will you partisan Teapublicans complain about on this. 5 year low on unemployment sounds pretty good to me. Each year there is a seasonal hiring, so the fact that it is during the Christmas hiring isn't relevant. They had the same season each of those last 5 years too.
If this is true, which is questionable since nearly 1/2 the states totals are estimates, It is coming about 2.5 years too late. Slowest recovery from recession in 75 years. And people are Happy about this recovery???
Another AP story on the economy... the numbers say it's looking good, but if the world ends, it's looking bad...
"That's because they don't count those that have been unemployed for a long time" .... that's because these are NEW applications.
"This is partly because many many people have used up their unemployment benefits and can no longer receive benefits/payout." .... please explain how this is related to NEW applications.
Haha! I knew it, last week when the claims rose the Trib never ran the story. This week it drops, front page news. What a joke.
