Difference between 7-6 and 6-7? Quite a bit for Gophers

The Gophers know they've improved, but a winning record from a bowl victory would provide validation.

Go Gophers! Hope MG has the game of his life!

(article's subtitle):"The Gophers know they've improved, but a winning record from a bowl victory would provide validation." ---- First, they shouldn't even be in a bowl game. Second, how does an unlikely victory in this one additional game make their 2 and 6 record become a winning record at 3 and 6? BTW, Kill's strategy next year is to play 20 community college teams first so the team can go 20 and 8 overall. I watched an on-field TV interview with a player right after a game and he was asked "How do you handle the lengthy time between this final regular season game and the bowl game?" He responded with EVERYTHING BUT reading books, writing reports, concentrating on studies, attending class, meeting with tutors, completing his cold-fusion energy project (yes, a joke), you get the point. Scholarship money that is completely wasted.

Oh my....give them 7 because this game has turned into another cupcake. Tech's coach left them high and dry 1 week ago, starters have been suspended for the game, they didn't want to come to this toilet bowl to begin with. Much like Alabama and Arkansas just going through the motions in Nashville, we will see the same sleep walk from TT leading to a gopher win about as meaningfull as any of their other hollow cupcake triumphs in 2012!

Maybe Xmas had an effect on me. I hope they do well.

If we were operating in a vacuum I'd agree with some of the pokes and jabs at the Gopher Football program; scholarships and yes even about the 'cupcakes' which they have scheduled. But how does a culture of 50 years of losing change ... when you rarely taste a victory? Gophs have come a long way in a short time when put in the 50 year context. There is an old (1953) John Wayne movie - Trouble Along the Way where he plays a college football coach. The 'waste' and 'lack of academic focus' aspect of college football isn't a new concept. Finally, I wish the Gophs well whether it's a major bowl someday or the 'Tail Pipe Bowl'. Go Gophers!

You can always tell when a program is beginning to get turned around and winning big is just around the corner. It's when the opposition's fans start sounding shrill and condescending! We've got their attention, obviously. Coach Kill & staff are putting together a winning program and it just worries the heck out of the non-Gopher fans out there!

No offense intended to the Gophers, but until they start winning some games in the Big 10 season, they are never going to be considered winners. Winning some cupcake games and picking off a couple of their bottom feeding Big 10 partners isn't a winning program. Beat Sconi, Mich and MSU and come back and talk to us.

what a bunch of debbie downers posting here. Turning the Gopher Football program around can't be done over night, each step in the right direction is critical. Going from 3-9 to 6-6 and a decent bowl game is progress. Ditch the debbie downer easy-to-do negative attitudes and contribute something positive!

@shackle - like any young person not familiar with interviews, he answered directly to the subject discussed: football. He is not a trained professional, used to interviewing (and many of them are no prizes, anyway). To a college student, the classes and studies portions of their life are understood to be the norm, and not thrown out as something "extra" to be doing in the interim between games. He didn't mention taking a shower each day, either. Are you to take from that omission that he never bathes? These young men are working hard in the classroom and on the field; these deserve credit for the improvement that has been shown. No doubt there is a lot more to be done, but for now, cheer them on against their next opponent.

2-6 in '11 followed by 2-6 in '12 and staring 2-6 in '13 straight in the face is all you need to be concerned about, not beating a disinterested, coachless team in disarray.
