Increasing the debt ceiling is not an option. Make cuts, tax the uber rich or go over the cliff. Quite a legacy for our current political "leaders"...

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies.......Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here.'' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit........... Barrack Obama 3/16/2006

We are at the doorstep of another request to increase our credit card limit. We are also at the edge of a "fiscal cliff" agreed upon massive tax increases and $100B in automatic spending cuts signed into law by Barrack Obama in Aug 2011. Now he wants to avert that fiscal cliff, by repealing all the tax cuts except on 2% on Americans. He also does not want to cut spending but to decrease the inceases in future spending and add a couple little $50 Billion stimulus spending sprees

I think the cliff just got steeper, I think President just lost his leverage. Mr Obama and company will need to dig deep on cuts . Like he said " America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership." I will add we have a spendimng problem too!

Maybe if Geithner and the other criminally tax deliquent Obama appointees paid their taxes we wouldn't be at the limit. But how can it be that guys like Geithner were behind? Didn't they tell us how patriotic it is to pay "your fair share"? Hypocrites- every one of them. Bill G.

As Pres Obama continues to demonize the House GOP members at every opportunity, he is now desperate for their help to raise the debt limit. Here is the GOP waterloo, no debt level increase without real, significant spending cuts. Plans are out there (Penny Plan or the Debt Commission). If Obama remains intrangient, his second term would be a lost one.

This is the new America. There are not enough producers in the land of the lazy. Until the attitude of the gimemine party changes they my as well finish it now by not increasing the debt limit and let the chips fall where they may. It's going to happen so it may as well be sooner than later.

Bills have been sent to the democrat controlled senate that would avert the fiscal cliff. Time for the democrat led senate to get off their a**es and start doing the job!

Go over the cliff, go over the cliff, go over the cliff. Then we'll be rid of all of the temporary fixes and deal with reality.
