The headline and the article are misleading. The tea "party" has ALWAYS been about fringe issues. It was only the media, desperate for some kind of horse race election story, that gave this tiny minority any voice at all.

RE:"...Tea Party activists in the middle of the country are skirting the fiscal showdown in Congress and turning to fringe issues..." --------------------------- I disagree. This "party" has always been about two things: fringe issues and race. They are as irrational as they are unpersuasive.

"tinfoil hat". I like that. Best two-word summary of the Tea Party I've seen.

The Tea Party = American Taliban. Nothing this destructive has been seen in this country since the Joe McCarthy communist-under-every-rock era. If you study fascism, this movement fits it to a tee (pardon the pun).

Why is the Tea Party part of the Republican party instead of a third (or fourth, or fifth, ....) political party?

BwaaaaaaaahwahwahwaHWAAAAA.... We will be there to make sure that every last RINO is rooted out of the true Republican Party, and you socialists can continue in your state of denial about the Tea Party's influence all you want. Stick your heads in the sand all you want. The Tea Party has made a colossal mark on politics over the past two years, and we are here to stay. Deal with it, and deal with the consequences. We are not going away.

The major hate engine of the regressive party is the tea party. They have stirred a lot of hate up for everything that they are afraid of, which is many many things.

Lots of them lost their seats in congress but until they are all gone the threat to the good values of this country still exist.

You can gauge the effectiveness of any conservative movement by the amount of hate liberals have for it. The Tea Party is alive and well.
