How many nurses will be laid off to pay for this raise? In this economy 4.5% is A very large raise.

Great news. My sister is a nurse. She works hard and earns every bit of her salary.

Congrats nurses and the wonderful job you do day in and day out! As a husband of a nurse I know the important work you do and lives touched each day. Hopefully soon nurses in this country will be held in the same high regard as that in the UK.

Yoganazi....4.5% over 3 years is a rather small raise for the current economy. It might, and I do say might, keep up with the current rate of inflation or cost of living. If you haven't gotten a 3% raise every year over the last 5 years, you are actually taking home less pay than you did before you had the additional 5 years experience. This is a big business' dream come true, but a complete attack on the middle class.

Still with high unemployment, a union asks for and receives a "high" wage hike. What a joke. Unions, and I mean all unions, please take time and look around at others who are suffering!!

The increase of 4.5% over 3 years works out to 1.5% per year. The headline is misleading--especially if you only read the headline!
