With a penny costing 2 cents, US Mint tests new metals to make coins for less

Why not make them of plastic with some ground copper to get the correct signature.

Our currency is already getting cheaper by the day.....because of the Fed policy, not the US Mint's recepie card.

I can't stand pennies. Right now I have a stack of them sitting at my desk. When I get change back, I save the bigger coins, because I can use them in the vending machine. I have no use for the pennies, so they stack up, with no place to go. Maybe if retailers started rounding everything to the nickle, it would aid in the phasing out of this coin.
