Review: Astell & Kern portable music player boasts purist-level sound on the go

ATLANTA - It's hard to make headlines with a portable music player these days. It's old hat by now to carry around thousands of songs in your hip pocket, whether on an iPod or a smartphone.

Do you know of the legal case of the RIAA suing the Minnesota woman for downloading songs? If not, look it up. Then, be assured that this article on audio quality is absolutely truthful. The MP3 format is so poor in quality that I could likely legally argue that the woman did not actually download digital copies of those artists' songs but rather only cheap imitations which cannot be considered as having any value!

Great concept but heavy price to pay all around limit it to a tiny market niche. Would love to hear it though. Adding Bluetooth is questionable since its the weak link in quality sound.

Fads come and fads go. If you came from the sixties and seventies you researched and sought the best in "true or high fidelity". You found what the ear could discern as the best sound, and it was worth it. This is just a high tech, very high cost fad of the groupie society. Go ahead and buy it and you will be the sucker of the day.

There is a strong audiophile market. The plethora of over - $5000 components and speakers on the market attest to that. This is a good thing, and the market should respond with lower cost products and more competition in the media suppliers, just as there has been a resurgence of vinyl records and tube components in response to the renewed quest for really great sound quality.
