Golden Valley support was critical if light-rail plans were to proceed.

Another LRT that skips the city? I thought we learned that lesson already.

I can't see using the line. If I have to drive to the border of Minneapolis to park I might as well drive the last few minutes to downtown. The flat rate price of the fare doesn't help either. If you car pool you can park downtown in the ABC ramp for $20/mo, while it would cost $170 for a pare of transit passes. Even if you don't car pool a monthly contract is only marginally more than transit. GV is just too close to Mpls for edge of town LRT station to matter.

It is the end of the line, with new beginnings.

It's a big waste of taxpayer dollars to serve folks who want to live as far away from the city as possible, pay as little real estate taxes as possible yet get fast reliable transportation to and from work.

As a supporter of light rail, I'm pleased to see this go forward. That being said, I'd like to see more lines routed through dense urban neighborhoods, where rail use would be sky high. There's a clear suburban focus with Bottineau and the Southwest routes. Some kind of line simply must be run through south Minneapolis and that corridor alongside the Greenway should also be utilized.

I can hardly envision anyone in Golden Valley using this line. It does seem like another missed opportunity (like the forthcoming Southwest line) for greater ridership and redevelopment opportunities by routing it in through low-density areas and parkland.

Not running this line through dense, walkable urban neighborhoods is downright criminal. Enjoy your park and ride ramps in Theo Wirth Park. We can run light rail down the length of University Avenue just fine, but running it down a short segment of Penn and Broadway before joining the railroad corridor in Robbinsdale is a non-starter? What the heck is going on with transit planning in the Twin Cities? First the Southwest line skips Uptown and the densest neighborhoods in the whole state, now this. Have we lost our minds?

I want to congratulate the Golden Valley City Council for taking this courageous step forward on the Bottineau Corridor. Despite all the concerns being voiced, I do believe once the line is built and is operational it will be successful and will help to tie the system together. I do agree, however, that there are other areas which can also benefit from light rail, such as Hennepin Avenue or France Avenue and west to Wayzata. Another possible corridor is the Highway 65 corridor going north to Blaine. Council Member Joanie Clausen was correct when she said light rail is our future.

Great news! It looks like Golden Valley has finally decided to get with the times! And guess what? If this Light Rail 100% approved the taxes we pay you'll never even notice it. As for you Light Rail opponents in Golden Valley/Theodore Wirth Park area, complain all you want, because very likely your home/property value will increase! What's not to like about that along with the convenience making Golden Valley and Mpls-St. Paul a better place for residents and tourism? And add it up as years go by this gives many of us options to save $100s and $1,000s on gas, vehicle maintenance, parking fees and airport taxi rides . Your car less likely to have brake repairs considering less stops at intersections. It's a fact that those who live close to light rails or subways save $600 monthly expenses by rarely using a car. Multiply that 12 months that's $7,200 in your pocket annually. A decade that's $72,000 extra in your retirement fund! Now I get it that gas isn't going to cost close to $7,200 annually, but you'll save $100s annually. The $7,200 annually savings mainly is because you don't have to buy a new car because you won't get hamstrung on high interest loan payments! Take the Light Rail and keep your car in the garage!

jcinmn, No, what your describing is called a highway. Highways are what caused sprawl in this country; not rail transit. Rail is returning as the solution to the problems caused by highways.
