A BONUS FOR WHAT?...for a 43% graduation rate? worse than even chicago or gang infested Los Angeles. And School Board members signing letters with Union letterhead? see if you can name one other district in the entire country that would hire Bernadia Johnson to run it.

1.1GPA? Way to really push the students to excel. What a joke.

Yeah, the board graded tough, alright. Collect $190,000 regardless of how effective a job you do. Getting a performance bonus is standard operating procedure for executive staff at most any business that has a compensation committee (e.g. school board), as you don't want to hurt the executive's feelings. The size of the bonus is where it gets more political: How much can we justify without enraging the shareholders (e.g. the voting public). Telling is that the school board debated RELAXING the GPA requirements for students to be able to participate in sports. Just what is this $190,000 plus bonuses buying us, the public, these days?! Shame on the StarTribune for a puff piece. A "D" for lack of effort and little data to show for it.

What's the priority here? Playing football or graduating? A 2.0 GPA is not a high bar in the first place, so no need to lower it. I get the argument that engagement could lead to persistence, but graduating with a 1.3 GPA isn't going to take you much further than being a dropout.

The headline reads that she received a $12,000 bonus. The article then references some obscure performance clause which entitles her to the money. My contention isn't whether she should or shouldn't get the bonus but rather what the criteria is to receive the funds. This is a case of some sloppy and lazy reporting whereby the readers don't get any details. This is especially important if you are going to use the inflammatory headline that you chose. I expect better from a major news gathering organization.

An almost 50% dropout rate and the worst student achievement results in the state and THAT qualifies for a $12,000 bonus on top of a ridiculous $190,000 annual salary? Only the Democrat brain can possibly reward such failure.

Where are the high expectations? The fact this is even up for a debate is sad.

And some people say that we can't cut government spending...yeah, right.

$190,000 is double what this job should be paying, but then again, after seeing the salaries payed out to school administrators, everyone is making double what they should.

Is the School Board going to hire yet another assistant to help her do her job again ? Looks like religion (Santa Claus) got into the public schools after all.
