Love the phone; hate the phone

Americans' growing cellphone dependence -- which includes sleeping with the devices -- comes with a dose of angst.

Don't let the phone control your life! Nothing says you have to answer it when it rings, and you don't have to respond when you get a text message. Anyone that thinks you have to respond to their call or message immediately is telling you what little value they place on YOUR time. I love my iPhone. I have pretty much all alerts turned off; which means I only see e-mails or whatever when I actually go into that particular app. Works great. All the plusses of the phone without the slavery.

When people feel the need to answer their phone or respond to a text even when driving, that's a problem. We need to stop being ruled by our electronic devices.

Parents should make sure that their children's phones are charged in the kitchen each night, not in the bedroom.

My wife gets really upset when I don't answer the phone even if I'm in a position where I can't.

People sleep with their phones? That's pathetic. I myself never answer a telephone. I've found that there could be someone on the other end of it.
