Minnetonka needs to get over themselves. Do you have family that could use of a group home or would you rather send them to a Nursing Home. If you really loved your loved ones, you would have them at this home. I know. My mom failed in a Nursing Home.

Minnetonka council and neighbors are forcing a new kitchen but not allowing one more resident to pay for it. Obvious the plan to "get rid of them" was put in to play long ago, just admit it. Hope you don't need dignity and respect when your memory fails someday. Shame!

The folks responding emotionally and with judgmental comments about both neighbors and the city of Minnteonka should probably have a clue what they're talking about before speaking. Watch the meeting. Read the Minutes. Read Anne Marie Hansen's tax returns and Board information- the Planning Commission and City Council unanimously voted to deny for A REASON. Gianna Homes has been operating dishonestly and illegally for nearly a decade and that's a legally documented fact. Have an opinion after an illegal business builds a parking lot in your front yard, then tries to buy your neighbor to build some more. Everyone wants to say, "Not in My Back Yard" about this neighborhood but perhaps those that don't live there and don't experience the troubles should refrain from commenting on a matter they know nothing of.

What a SHAME!!! Minnetonka. The concerns bought by the neighbors seem very petty in comparison to the great service this home provides the the elder with memory loss issues.A friend is a resident there ,receives excellent care and activity programs compared to the Nursing home she lived at where there was little care and fewer activities. It sounds .like Minnetonka wants to force Gianna out. They provide a service that most people could or would not do. I don't know how the Minnetonka city council will sleep at night after this .Shame on you

Now the counsel and city staff needs to evaluate the details of the commercial kitchen requirements for 10 residents, assess what truly needs updating for health safety, and grant a waiver for other requirements that probably have the greatest benefit in larger true commercial kitchens that serve a larger number of people. There has to be a solution where the home can afford to remain open, while also meeting city and state codes and regulations. Let's see a solution.

One of the whiners, I mean neighborhood residents said that one more senior resident would increase traffic 10%...HA! Let's see, if we have 33 houses with an average of 4 residents each, we have 132 residents. Add to that then current 10 senior home residents and we'll round up and say the facility has four staff working all hours. So we have ~143 people residing/working in that neighborhood. They would add no additional staff, there probably would be a slight uptick in visitors for this ONE new resident, so if we go from 143 people living in the neighborhood, to 144 people living there, the likelihood is that the increase in traffic due to this additional resident would be less than one percent, even if you round up a whole bunch. Whiners.

At some point some of those voting no will be looking for such a facility for a loved one. And will be frustrated by what is available.

Stark white tile walls; bars on the windows; 'residents' shuffling in hospital gowns in 'Mr. McGoo slippers' ... being served attended by 'Nurse Ratched'. 'Tonka residents, this is your legacy. You don't support housing for the aged and 'failing', the afore mentioned description could be your future as you age or you own parents future as they age. Our society doesn't seem to allow for people to 'age gracefully' and to advance in age and pass on with dignity. Minnetonka chamber of commerce brochure may now read - 'Tonka: Poster child for those who don't respect the aging.

Usually NIMBY stops something that could be classified as serious, like say building an oil refinery or nuclear power plant nearby, things that could really affect someone's quality of life. But look at what the intrepid citizens on Minnetonka have rallied to stop: 1. Garbage being put out too early. 2. Too many people parking on the street, making it hard for them to negotiate the turn into their own driveways, and 3) Having to explain to guests why someone wearing scrubs is walking down their street. Well done, citizens of Minnetonka. PS FYI, Karma will likely be presenting its bill somewhere down the road.
