Eighteen jobs for helping destroy the environment. What a deal!

Sick. But how does a small town of 2,500 people fight the oil industry?? Do we even know what the effects of silica dust will have on the local eagle population? I was just there a couple of weeks ago and counted no less than 30 bald eagles in the area. And that's just what I saw casually looking out the window of my car as I drove thru. 600 trucks per day in and out of Wabasha will pretty much turn it into an industrial wasteland. Say goodbye to another Minnesota jewel.

How about requiring an economic impact statement every time the enviro people want to shut down a project? For every job lost to be green, the left hast to provide another economic source that is not service based.

What's the cost to replace the bridge between Nelson and Wabasha in 5 years when the truck traffic has destroyed it? Is Superior Sand or the railroad going to pick that tab up or the tax payers? I agree with Sorghastrum, this is rediculous for 18 jobs plus no tax benefit to either state. Where's our Govenor on this one?

I'm thinking 25$ per axle toll for vehicles exceeding 5000 lbs on all bridges across the St.Croix and Mississippi, that would be over 187M dollars for Minnesota roads just for the 600 trucks on that bridge.

Might as well kiss The Great River Road goodbye. The scenic highway won't be the same with hundreds of additional truck trips every day.

Cannot believe that Sand Frac Co. has intimidated and bullied the Wabasha City Council into letting them trash your very quaint and historic town. Good luck with your tourism. And what blows our minds is that your town will not reap any of the profits.

All that company needs do is wave a few big bills in front of the city council's faces, and its all over for Wabasha. What a shame. A meesely 18 jobs to destroy a town.

I would like to hear a comment from state rep Drazkowski on this issue. You may recall that he wanted to balance the state budget last year by cutting down the walnut trees in the state parks. This is his district. He should step up for the people he represents and get a bill into the legislature quickly.

This is really a sad, sad story. For the people of the town. For the eagles and the environment. For the taxpayers who will have to pony up to repair roads and bridges. Who is winning?
