Headed to US Senate, SC's Scott credits modest background, downplays status as a minority

Stories from news organizations emphasize that Scott will be the first black Republican from the South since Reconstruction. Let's see, how many black senators have come from blue states like California, New York, New Jersey, or Minnesota, to name a few? News stories only seem to point out this guy's race because he's from the South and a Republican, a real novelty. But it is any more unique than a black senator of either party from California?

Sounds like just another DeMint! That is not what we need in the Senate, but what else comes out of South Carolina.
