I've been an outspoken critic of Christian Ponder. But I've got to give Ponder credit for playing awfully well yesterday. Especially on that first drive. Ponder stayed in the pocket longer, did a better job scanning the field, and allowing time for his receivers to finish their routes. Ponder's footwork was also much-improved. Now if he can go forward from this game...who knows?

“The quarterback wasn't nearly as good the rest of the game, completing 14/21 for 93 yards.” I love it! Ponder has a solid day and nary a word from the beat writers other than a passing mention of his TD run. The fact that he played solid, didn’t turn the ball over, threw some dimes out there, and made smart decisions, yet nada, nothing, zilch. Ponder this. Before the bye v. Detroit, Ponder was 24-32/221/2TDs, and although he had a rough patch against tough division foes, he is 2-2 since the bye. Jay Cutler, with Marshall, Jefferey, Hester, not to mention Forte and Bush as targets, has seen games of 7 for 14, 40 yards, 22 for 44 with 1 TD and 2 INTs, and a 12 for 21/135 yard effort yesterday, and that’s just the last few weeks. So people want to knock Ponder, yet Cutler is a well respected veteran? Go figure! Hey Craig, with only 2 comments, including mine, you may want to switch over to Bleacher Report. You’d get more reads and more comment involvement. Just sayin’

Ponder still sucks. There I said it. He was just lucky on the TD run. It was a busted play. While he may improve his footwork and staying in the pocket he still cannot throw the deep pass accurately much less deep. That will haunt him no matter where he goes.

Vikings need to think bigger picture than Ponder. This team could be very good next year with a QB who is more than a "don't lose the game for us"-style game manager. Ponder just doesn't have the skills to be much more than what he is now, and the sooner the front office recognizes that, the better we will be during AP's prime.
