The discovery / history channels have been running the Mayan / doomsday programs for years now. Will they have a program for Saturday, when we wake up and all is as it was the day b/4? Saying they're sorry for all the nonsense?

This is all true. But..about the 100,000 people watching the sky...didn't we last week have an asteroid the size of a school bus come between the earth and the moon? Nasa had 48 hour notice...

@harrissteven - A school-bus sized asteroid would do little to no damage to the planet. Besides, 70% of the planet is water which makes a splashdown more likely. Also, a large fraction of it would burn up and likely the remaining structure would have fragmented. While it has the potential to ruin someone's day, it's not an earth-ender and certainly not a priority for ground-based telescopes looking for Near-Earth Objects.

I guarantee by the end of January 2013, they will have discovered a new quatrain by Nostradamus or some other nonsense that gives a new date far enough out that they can sell more books. It's been the same pattern all our lives.

I love the idea that there could be a "secret giant planet", particularly if the planet is clever enough to hide behind the sun! People who believe things like this probably still think that an eclipse occurs when a giant dragon is eating the sun or moon.
