Despite the chorus of approval from Republicans in Congress John Kerry would certainly be a good choice for Secretary of (either) State or Defense Department(s). The question is whether Democrats should agree with them that giving up a seat in the Senate (presumebly to former Senator Scott Brown) is fair exchange for Republican support of Kerry's confirmation. So my question is which Massachusetts Democrat will contend with Brown's slam dunk drive for the Senate vacancy? If the Democrats field a plausible alternative to Brown I'm as sure voters will give him/her due consideration as I am that people won't like their votes taken for granted by pollsters or anyone else.
