The printer manufacturers screwed themselves with the high cost of the ink for their printers.

Many large companies from 3M to DuPont to Dow Chemical, McDonald's and many others reported disappointing or reduced revenue for the third quarter 2012. The economy is bad, no matter what the politicians tell us or what the leftist media wants us to think. The economy never recovered from the last recession and is likely entering another one.

HP built it's business model around selling cheap printers and then charging outrageous amounts for toner. I shutter every time I have to pay 60 bucks to put ink in my $99 printer. I notice that my wife's Canon printer lets you set to print with the black cartridge only, and save that setting. On HP, you have to set it each time you print. They want to force you to use the color toner (which it uses even if the document is only B&W.) Of course people are going to find other options.
